Charles Leclerc crashes Niki Lauda’s historic F1 1974 Ferrari in Monaco

Formula One championship leader Charles Leclerc crashed again in his hometown of Monaco, this time in a historic Ferrari.

Leclerc was driving a 1974 Ferrari that was once driven by three-time F1 champion Niki Lauda in a performance on Sunday at the 2022 Monaco Historic Grand Prix. He drove deep into the La Rascas corner, lost control of the rear of the car and came back into the barriers.

The contact damaged the car’s rear wing and it seemed intimate to Monaco resident Leclerc that he had a problem with the pedals.

“Just when you thought you had all the misfortunes in the world already in Monaco and you lost the brakes with one of the most iconic historic Ferrari Formula 1 car,” Leclerc later posted on Twitter.

Leclerc had won pole for his home race, the Monaco Grand Prix, last year, but crashed before the start of the race and missed it altogether.

Leclerc has won two through five F1 races this season; He is ahead of defending world champion Max Verstappen by 19 points at the Spanish Grand Prix.
