Chhath Puja 2022 Calendar: Dates, Significance, Rituals and Timings of Nahay Khay, Kharna, Sandhya Arghya and Usha Arghya

Happy Chhath Puja 2022: Chhath Puja is celebrated on the sixth day of Shukla Paksha. This festival is celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm after Diwali mainly in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand. Worshiping Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya on Chhath Puja brings you health, wealth and happiness.

Chhath Puja is performed by women for the well being and happiness of their sons. The four-day festival begins with Nahay Khay and ends with Usha Arghya. There are four days of Chhath festival:

The first day of Chhath Puja is called Nahay Khay. Women observing Chhath fast take a holy bath in the river Ganges on this day and eat only once. This includes cleaning the house and eating a vegetarian diet. It is falling on 28 October this year. Sunrise time is 6:35 am and sunset time is 5:39 pm

Kharna is the second day of Chhath festival. On this day women fast from sunrise to sunset without drinking water. After sunset, they break the fast by offering food to Lord Surya and Chhath Mata.

Women start Chhath fast on this day after consuming Prasad. In the evening they can eat jaggery kheer, chapatis filled with fruits and ghee.

On October 29, Kharna will be celebrated at 06:36 am and 05:54 pm at sunset and sunrise respectively.

Arghya is offered to the setting sun on the third day of Chhath Puja. In the evening, bamboo baskets are decorated with fruits, thekua and rice laddus, after which devotees and their families offer arghya to the sun.

Water and milk are offered to Lord Surya during Arghya and the sixth Maiya is worshiped with a soup filled with prasad. After worshiping Lord Surya, women sing Chhath Geet and listen to Vrat Katha.

Sandhya Arghya will be celebrated on 30 October. Sunrise and sunset times are expected at 06:36 AM and 05:30 PM respectively.

Usha Arghya is the fourth and final day of Chhath Puja, when arghya is offered to the rising sun. On this day, devotees go to the banks of the river before sunrise to offer arghya to the rising sun. They want happiness and peace for their children.

After the puja, devotees drink sherbet and raw milk and eat small amounts of prasad to break the fast. This day will be celebrated on 31 October this year.

Sunrise and sunset are likely to happen at 06:37 AM and 05:52 PM respectively.
