Chhattisgarh: Gevra becomes India’s first coal mine to reach 50 million tonnes production

Raipur (Chhattisgarh). [India]March 21 (ANI): The Gevra coal mine in Chhattisgarh’s Korba district has become the first in India to reach the mark of 50 million tonnes of production. The mine is owned by South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), one of the largest coal producing subsidiaries of Coal India Limited.

“A historic moment for the coal sector, for the first time in India a coal mine has crossed the 50 MT production mark. Congratulations @secl_cil team for writing the name of Gevra mine in golden letters in the history of coal sector of India.

About 700 workers work per shift in the Gevra mine.

On reaching the milestone, CMD Prem Sagar Mishra reached Gevra Project along with FD, met and congratulated the entire team. He also interacted with the HODs and officials of the area.

This year the Gevra mine has set a target of 52 million tonnes, which is expected to be achieved before the end of the financial year.

Gevra Mine has carved a niche for itself among the projects of Coal India through the incorporation of modern and eco-friendly mining technology.

Blasting free surface mining technology is used in mining, while rapid loading systems with silos equipped with conveyor belts are used to transport the coal.

Meanwhile, the entire SECL crossed the highest ever annual coal production of 157.43 MT, surpassing the previous high of 157.35 MT achieved in 2018-19.

The development of Gevra field is very important for the progress of SECL as this field has high reserves of coal which can be used for power generation across the country for an estimated 10 years. (ANI)
