About 110 Lakh Metric Tonnes (MT) of paddy is estimated to be procured from farmers in Chhattisgarh at Minimum Support Price (MSP) in the current Kharif marketing season, a government official said on Monday.

Last year, about 98 lakh metric tonnes of paddy was procured from farmers in the state.

All preparations are in full swing to start the procurement of paddy and so far more than 25 lakh farmers have registered, out of which 95,000 have made fresh registrations, to sell their produce themselves at designated centres, he said. .

The official said the registration of farmers enrolled last year was carried forward this year.

He said that around 110 lakh metric tonnes of paddy is estimated to be procured in this Kharif marketing season, for which 5.50 lakh jute bags would be required.

He said that a trial run of the campaign would be conducted from October 26 to 28 in all cooperative societies before the actual procurement begins.

To check illegal flow of paddy from neighboring states, teams of revenue, food, cooperative and forest departments have been formed at the district level, the official said.

In June this year, the Center had raised the minimum support price for paddy from ₹100 to ₹2,040 per quintal for the 2022-23 crop year.
