Child Protection Day 2021: Theme, History, Significance and Infant Mortality Rate in India

Every year 7 November is celebrated as Child Protection Day. The day aims to raise awareness about the safety of newborn babies and protect their lives by providing appropriate care to babies. It should be clarified that babies face many challenges due to lack of adequate protection and care.

According to World Health Organization data, 2.4 million babies died in the first month of birth in 2019. Every day, more than 7,000 children die, which is 47 percent with a third of all child mortality (under the age of 5). Deaths occur on the day of delivery and about three-quarters of those occurring within the first week of life.

goal of the day

Declaring this unique day on 7th November, the original objective was to make people aware of the need for safety that we need to do to take care of new babies. However, due to the lack of care and protection after delivery, babies face many challenges that endanger their lives.

infant mortality rate in india

Infant mortality rate in India is high as compared to other countries due to lack of health care. According to the United Nations Child Mortality Report, 721,000 infant deaths were recorded in India in 2018, which is equivalent to an average of 1,975 deaths per day.

By implementing this day, the government has declared an effective way to prevent infant mortality. Lack of essential health care, lack of knowledge and increasing population burden have not led to a reduction in infant mortality. Babies are the citizens of tomorrow, and must be protected because they are the future of the world. The Government of India has started several initiatives to help newborn babies.

Protecting newborns is vital to ensuring a peaceful tomorrow and helping the world become a better place. The children are not in the possession of anyone; They neither belong to their family nor to society, but they are undeniably our shared responsibility.

The theme of this year’s Child Protection Day is “Protecting, Promoting and Developing Children”.
