There’s another part to this problem: accounts. When a certain number of baby eggs are selected, the quantity of eggs is ordered according to the rule book and purchased from vendors.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Shakti Nirman Programme, school children are given boiled eggs, bananas or groundnut chikkis for 46 days in the current academic year. Accordingly, schools in Dakshina Kannada district have started this scheme with mid-day meals for the last two weeks.

While kids are happy to have a choice of what to do with lunch at school, teachers are fine. Children are first asked what they want to eat. They can choose between 1 boiled egg – 1 banana or 1 peanut chikki – any of these three. But having kids, in just two weeks has turned things upside down.

Those who opted for eggs gave up on Friday saying they don’t eat non-vegetarians on that day. Some heard from their classmates/friends that Chikki is a delicious dessert and started asking for it the next day. Some had egg and then later banana and chikki came to the counters and saying no to children is not an easy task, explained teachers of various government schools.

There’s another part to this problem: accounts. When a certain number of baby eggs are selected, the quantity of eggs is ordered according to the rule book and purchased from vendors. The count goes down when they later eat the egg and pick a banana. So all this math has gone crazy for the teachers and staff. Usha M, executive officer of Akshara Dasoha said that students being inconsistent in their choices is now a big problem
