China expects new Covid outbreak to worsen in coming days

china new covid-19 infection A health official said there would be an increase in the coming days and the areas affected by the pandemic may continue to expand.

The current outbreak in China is caused by a delta variant from overseas, Wu Liangyou, an official with the National Health Commission, said at a briefing in Beijing on Sunday.

Commission spokesman Mi Feng said in the briefing that the wave of infections spread to 11 provinces in the week since October 17. MI said that most of the infected people have cross-region travel history. He urged the areas affected by the pandemic to adopt an “emergency mode”.

According to Zhou Min, a transport ministry official, some cities in Gansu provinces – including its capital Lanzhou – and Inner Mongolia have halted bus and taxi services because of the virus.

Ijina, a county in the western part of Inner Mongolia, has asked all residents and travelers to stay indoors from Monday, the local government said in a statement.

According to the National Health Commission, China reported 26 new locally confirmed Covid-19 infections on Saturday, including seven in Inner Mongolia, six in Gansu, six in Ningxia, four in Beijing, one in Hebei, one in Hunan and one in Shaanxi. One is included. Another four local asymptomatic cases were reported in Hunan and Yunnan.

The spread of the delta variant in Asia is slowing efforts by governments to reopen their economies. Singapore announced on Saturday that only employees who have been fully vaccinated, or who have recovered from Covid-19 in the past 270 days, can return to the workplace from January 1. The government last week extended other virus restrictions for another month as cases continue to rise. Even after complete vaccination of more than 84% of the population.

In China’s capital Beijing, the epidemic has expanded to three districts, including Haidian, a scientific center, Pang Jinghuo, deputy head of the Beijing Center for Disease Prevention and Control, said at a briefing on Sunday.

Pang said five new confirmed local Covid cases and an asymptomatic one were reported between Saturday afternoon and Sunday 3 pm.

Beijing Daily reported that Beijing would cancel the marathon, originally scheduled for October 31, because of the virus. The newspaper said that in the cities where the infection has been found, people have been banned from coming to or returning to the capital.
