China sees huge initial demand for iPhone 14 despite Covid measures

Despite the COVID-10 containment measures in several cities, Chinese vendors are seeing huge demand for the new Apple iPhone 14 series.

According to the South China Morning Post, an Apple vendor in the Shenzhen district said it has seen a huge demand for the iPhone 14.

“Vendors in the Huaqiangbei market in the southern tech hub of Shenzhen are gearing up for strong sales of the iPhone 14, priced up to 2,000 yuan ($255),” the report noted.

Huaqiangbei City is temporarily closed due to stringent COVID-19 containment measures.

The official pre-orders for the iPhone 14 series began on September 9, with official sales starting September 16.

According to the report, the mark-up on the other models is expected to range from 500 Yuan to 1,000 Yuan, citing vendors.

“It will be hotter than last year’s iPhone 13,” said one of the sellers.

Apple has launched the new iPhone 14 series with four models – iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max, with prices starting at Rs 79,900.

The Pro model has an always-on display, crash detection, emergency SOS via satellite, and a new way to receive notifications and activities with Dynamic Island.
