Beijing: China should focus on addressing “imbalanced and inadequate development” in the next five years, President Xi Jinping told senior leaders this week, it shows that he wants to continue with the economic priorities adopted in the last five years.
state broadcaster CCTV On Wednesday, Xi made the remarks at a special two-day meeting in Beijing on Tuesday in which he laid out his vision for “the next five years and more” after the ruling. Communist Party Later this year holds a Congress.
The party is about to reshuffle its leadership in the Congress for the next five years. While two of his previous predecessors stepped down after two full terms, Xi is expected to secure an unprecedented third term as China’s top leader in Congress.
Xi first mentioned the need to address the problems of “unbalanced and inadequate development” as a policy priority when he presented a key political document at the last Congress in 2017.
Problems include low quality development, weak innovation, wide gaps in available development and social services between cities and villages, and over-reliance on fossil fuels, he said in a 2017 Congressional report.
According to CCTV, Xi told regional chiefs and ministers gathered for this week’s meeting that the party should maintain its “fighting spirit” and strengthen its “fighting ability”.
In his review of the past five years, Xi listed the modernization and pacification of the Chinese military taiwan strait as some of his achievements.
