Citizen service delivery e-portal to employ 1 million ‘Gramsevaks’

Mahagram is a fintech company which aims to enroll around 1 million unemployed youth under its newly launched Gramsevak project. The company has recently launched a citizen service delivery portal named ‘GramSevak.com’ to provide basic doorstep banking and e-governance services to all citizens living in rural and urban parts of India.

According to the company, the said services will be provided through digitally enabled foot-on-street representatives called ‘Mahagram Sevaks’. These ‘Mahagram Sevaks’ will earn a commission for the services rendered by them through the portal, the company informed in its press release.

Commenting on this initiative, Mahagram CEO Ram Shriram said that all the Gramsevaks working on the project will be compensated in the form of commission for the services rendered to the citizens through Gramsevak.com portal. Citizens can use the GramSevak.com platform to access e-governance, banking and insurance services with the support of their local Gramsevak representatives. Mahagram hopes to enroll around 10 lakh unemployed youth under the Gramsevak project, which will provide them with a source of regular income.

The program aims to increase the proportion and habit of household savings in rural India, especially by focusing on rural women as they are the ones who run the household, claimed a press release issued by the company.

GramSevak.com portal is designed and developed keeping in mind the rural consumers and through assisted model citizens can avail these services irrespective of having technical or financial knowledge. We aim to serve 300 million people to bring them under financial inclusion.” The company’s services will be provided to both urban and rural population.

Fintech company Mahagram claims to enable banking from mom-and-pop stores through fintech solutions. The company’s mission is to enable rural women to save money at local kirana stores, instead of having to walk miles to the nearest bank branch, the release said. It is GramSevak.com initiative to provide employment to 1 million unemployed Indian youth.
