Citroen C3 testing continues as launch nears

The Citroens subcompact C3 is expected to launch in the coming months.

The Citroen C3 has been spotted testing again in India without any camouflage. The lack of side cladding and alloy wheels seen on the vehicle in the test car at the time of its debut last year suggests that it could be a more mid-spec variant. Based on Citroen’s CMP platform, the new C3 for India will be in the B+ or premium hatchback segment and is Citroen’s first mass-market model for India. The car will be produced at the company’s plant in Tiruvallur along with the larger C5 Aircross.

The C3 follows a crossover inspired design with upright styling, and gets 180 mm of ground clearance and plastic cladding on the lower sections of the bumpers, wheel arches and side sills. The higher variants will be set to feature contrast inserts in the cladding on the lower doors as well as the dual-tone variant with the cladding. The C3 gets a split headlamp set-up with slim LED DRL units placed above the main headlamps. The units are joined by a chrome stripe that runs the width of the front fascia and incorporates the company’s double chevron logo. In the crossover look, a prominent grille sits down on the front bumper along with a faux diffuser.

While the cabin is not visible in the image, the C3 will get a clean and tidy cabin with the fully loaded model featuring a digital instrument cluster – this one with a simple dot-matrix-style readout in place of a full-color display , and a landscape-styled 10-inch touchscreen atop the center console.

Citroen is yet to confirm the engine details, though the car is expected to come with a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine that will develop around 100 bhp and 160 Nm. Reports suggest that a 1.5-litre diesel engine could also be a part of the line-up.

The C3 will be the first of three Citroen small cars to be launched in India by 2024. All three models will all be made in India and will be part of the company’s C Cubed program.
