City-based Bharati scholar honored

Historian and Bharati scholar AR Venkatachalapathy was given the Mahakavi Bharati Award by Coimbatore-based Bharathi Pasarai for his contribution to research and study about the national poet.

The award comprises a cash prize of ₹50,000. Bharathi Pasarai has been giving away the award since 2014, and this year, it jointly organized the ceremony through a webinar with the Kannadasan Kazhagam.

“Bharati scholars like Seni Viswanathan, P. Su. Mani and Y. Manikandan have already received the award. I am glad that this award has come at a time when I am writing a book on Bharati in English.’

He had compiled Bharati’s cartoons, wrote a book on how the poet’s works were nationalised, and published Bharati’s letters. Hindu.
