Clashes between Samajwadi Party and BJP supporters in UP, 10 in custody: Police

A political argument between supporters of the Samajwadi Party and the BJP turned into a skirmish and stone pelting took place in Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun, police said on Sunday.

He said that in connection with the incident in Kakrala area of ​​Alapur police station area of ​​Badaun, an FIR has been registered against 10 people and three of them have been taken into custody.

“One Mohammad Rustam and Asrar alias Maili, along with their supporters, were involved in a political argument which turned into violence. Their supporters pelted stones at each other. Four police teams were rushed to the spot to control the situation. Those involved in the clash managed to flee the spot when the police team reached there. No one was injured in the incident,” said Superintendent of Police (City) Praveen Singh Chauhan.

According to police, Rustom and Asrar – both of whom are yet to be arrested – both have criminal backgrounds. While Rustom is said to be a supporter of the BJP, Asrar is said to be close to the Samajwadi Party.

Chouhan said that the police have detained three suspects and they are being interrogated at Alapur police station.

He said that an FIR has been registered and investigation has been started. “We have registered an FIR against 10 people including Rustom and Asrar’s supporters. Efforts are on to arrest them,” the official said.

A police team has also been deployed in the area to ensure law and order, he said.
