Clean. Militants, local Lashkar allies behind Bandipora attack: IGP

The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday said that a non-local Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist and his local associates were behind the killing of two policemen in Bandipora on Friday.

“A Pakistani terrorist opened fire on the policemen. they couldn’t take the weapon [from them] Because of police retaliation. Two over-ground workers helped the attacker,” said IGP Vijay Kumar.

The IGP held a meeting with the offices of Army, CRPF and Police in Bandipora. He asked the security forces to “jointly track down the attackers by working on specific inputs in the district and strengthen anti-terrorist operations”.

Police and Army officials visited Gulshan Chowk and inspected the spot. Senior constable Mohammad Sultan and constable Fayaz Ahmed were killed in the attack.

DGP Jammu and Kashmir Dilbag Singh met the families of the deceased policemen on Saturday.

Talking to Sultan’s family in Sopore, DGP Singh said, “All possible help will be provided to the family.”

He said the police have got some leads and are working to identify the terrorists. He said, ‘Recently infiltration has been done by Pakistan in some places in which some Pakistani terrorists have infiltrated on this side. Terrorists are on our radar. I am hopeful that the Pakistani terrorists who have recently infiltrated will be eliminated soon as the operation against them is on.

He said that the main motive of Pakistan sponsored terrorists was to kill someone and cause damage to people’s life and their property. “The police work with other security agencies for the safety and security of the people so the police becomes the target. We have been fighting this war for the last 30 years and it is our responsibility to protect the life and property of the people.

Hundreds of local people attended the last rites of both the policemen in their villages.

Paying tributes, People’s Conference president Sajjad Gani Lone said in a tweet, “20 years ago, a policeman from Bandipur was murdered along with my father. My father was also killed. Saw pictures of orphaned daughter and son. 20 years. No change in vandalism. Just remember that today’s orphan is not yours does not mean that tomorrow’s orphan will not be yours. ,
