Drivers scrambled to grab whatever cash they could find after bags of money fell from an armored truck on a Southern California freeway in the United States on Friday.

According to officials, the incident happened at 9:15 a.m. when the armored truck was on its way from San Diego to an office of Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Several bags in the truck were broken, leaving currency scattered on a major street in Carlsbad, Southern California. notes.

Videos from the scene showed people picking up cash, while some were holding piles of cash and throwing notes – mainly $1 and $20 bills – into the air.

Bodybuilder, Demi Bagby posted footage of the chaotic scene on her Instagram page, saying, “This is the craziest thing I’ve ever seen, literally everyone stopped on the freeway to get money off the freeway.”

However, officials have urged people to hand over cash.

Although officials did not clarify how much money was lost, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune, several people had returned the cash to the CHP by Friday afternoon.

“People are bringing in a lot,” said California Highway Patrol (CHP) Sergeant Curtis Martin. “People got a lot of money.”

Speaking about the incident, Sergeant Curtis Martin said, “One of the doors opened and bags of cash fell out.”

Two men were arrested at the scene, and Sergeant Martin warned that anyone else who took the money could face criminal charges.

Referring to videos made by people at the scene, Sergeant Martin said the CHP and the FBI were investigating the matter.

The California highway was reopened within two hours of the incident.
