Bommai, who inaugurated newly-built police stations in Hubballi-Dharwad, and participated in the land puja for other such structures, pointed to deficiencies in the system, in which constables and even assistants There was facility to train sub-inspectors and higher officials. Bommai said he had already contemplated how this new center would be with officers from the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force. The Chief Minister also stressed the need to regularly upgrade the technical capabilities of the police force, and called upon the personnel to familiarize themselves with relevant information on the most widely used techniques. “The legal system has to be ahead of the curve when it comes to tackling crime. ‘Hubli can become a mega city’
The CM said that if Hubli is developed properly then it can emerge as a mega city by fulfilling its potential. Bommai said the state government is focusing on developing Hubballi-Dharwad, Vijayapura, Mysore and other urban centers under its ‘Beyond Bengaluru’ initiative. “The Urban Development Department has prepared a master draft for some of these cities. There are also plans to build six new cities, apart from this we want to create a special investment zone, which in turn will boost the development of North Karnataka.
‘Handled sensitive matters effectively’
Karnataka Home Minister Araga Gyanendra said that the state home department has handled many sensitive issues, such as the dispute over the right to don the hijab, violence in Hubli, etc. “The Home Department was earlier battling with 35% vacancy, due to its neglect. The vacancy has now been reduced to 12%,” said Gyanendra.
