Sales of CNG vehicles in India are likely to grow in double digits this year as even niche auto makers are offering their cars in CNG variant.
In the month of March 2022, Maruti Suzuki introduced the Swift DZire CNG variant in the Indian market at a price of Rs 8.14 lakh (ex-showroom). Apart from this, the brand’s CNG lineup includes Wagon R, Alto 800, Celerio, Eeco and S-Presso.
Korean automaker Hyundai’s CNG variant lineup includes Hyundai Aura, Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS and Hyundai Xcent. According to a media report, the company has sold more than 24,730 CNG cars in the first half of 2022.
Tata Motors India has witnessed 52% sales growth in the first half of 2022 with Tiago and Tigor CNG cars.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas had already announced the initiative to start 10,000 CNG distribution outlets in the year 2019. As of now, there are around 3,700 CNG distribution outlets operational in India. According to media reports, India will save around Rs 2 lakh crore in oil imports if people switch to CNG-powered vehicles.
