High-power motors are kept ready and corporation employees are tasked with pumping out water

In view of the heavy rains that lashed the city on Friday, the Coimbatore district administration and the civic body have made necessary arrangements in the areas which are prone to floods.

Collector GS Sameeran and Commissioner M Pratap inspected the Avinashi Road flyover here on Friday.

Mr Samiran said this was a preliminary inspection to check disaster preparedness. He said that areas which are prone to flooding are being constantly monitored, especially the underpasses in the city.

Corporation employees have been assigned the task of immediately removing water from the underpass near Kikkani School, Lanka Corner and Avinashi Road flyover. High-powered motors have been kept at the ready, and conditions are manageable even if it rains overnight. He said that the Revenue and Disaster Management Department and the Corporation will continue their efforts.

Meanwhile, Mr. Pratap called a meeting with the corporation officials and ordered them to make necessary arrangements in the flood-affected areas during the last rains.
