Chennai:

A 31-year-old physics teacher in Coimbatore has been arrested after the suicide of a Class 12 student who allegedly sexually assaulted her earlier this year.

There was public outcry in the city after a WhatsApp chat and an audio conversation that NDTV could not independently verify, suggesting sexual abuse of two other girls by the same teacher, went viral.

Police are also examining a handwritten note that indicates the involvement of two others. Speaking to NDTV, a senior official said, “The sexual assault has happened in the first half of this year.”

The police have also arrested the headmistress of a private school for not acting on the girl’s complaint under the law to prevent sexual offenses against children.

Vidya Reddy, founder of Tulir, a non-profit that works against child sexual abuse, says, “Schools should understand this. It is not a reflection of the school. It is a reflection of someone in the school. The way they address If abuse is reported or disclosed, it is a reflection of the school.”

In a statement, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said, “The mutilation of some people has snatched the life of a student. Schools should ensure that there is no sexual harassment. We will bring criminals before the law and women safety.” Will make sure.”

Recently, some teachers of prominent schools in Chennai were arrested following allegations of sexual harassment by current and former students. In some of those cases as well, the senior management had chosen to hide reports of alleged sexual violations despite having come to their notice.
