Great coffee, basic quick food, some healthy breakfast options: that’s what Kapi 2.0 is all about. The cafe, which now has seven outlets in the city and three more in the pipeline, was started in 2020 as a lockdown experiment by the city’s Satyan Balamnikam. “I wanted to start something on my own for another source of income,” says Satyan, sitting on the terrace of the latest addition to his chain near Anna Stitch on Avinashi Road. A minimalistic cafe seemed like something that would work, and Satyan gave it his all. “My focus was on offering healthier options with tea and coffee,” he says. His first outlet – his most successful to date – was in Vadavalli.

Satyan started Kapi 2.0 with a franchise model in mind. “I have people from all walks of life running our outlets,” he explains. “This includes a human resources manager who quit her job to do something on her own, an IT couple looking for a second income, and a housewife eager to set up a women’s outlet.” Satyan actually has 50 people working for him, most of whom are women.
