College student arrested for chain snatching in Coimbatore

The investigation wing of Singanallur police on Monday arrested two private students on charges of chain snatching.

Those arrested have been identified as K.N., a resident of PN Pudur in Coimbatore. Tamilselvan (21) and Tiruppur’s Veerapandi Pirivu K. as Prakash (19). Both had lost their father a few years back.

Police said that the duo snatched the gold chain of a 72-year-old woman near GV Residency on February 25 and a 40-year-old woman resident of SIHS Colony on March 15.

While probing the second case, the police managed to collect surveillance camera footage of the suspects and the two-wheelers used by them. Inspector R. The police team led by Vinothkumar traced the accused and arrested them on Monday.

On questioning, the duo told the police that they snatched the chains to pay their semester fees and monthly installment of Prakash’s sports bike, an official said.

The police have recovered the chains and have taken the motorcycle in their possession. The students were produced before the court and sent to judicial custody.
