Students participate in competitions, showcasing their creativity in addressing issues in various fields

The importance of creativity and innovation in problem solving was highlighted at events organized by city colleges on Saturday to mark the birth anniversary of India’s Missile Man and late President APJ Abdul Kalam.

IIT Hyderabad Director BS Murthy said, “The technical education sector is changing rapidly and it is necessary for the students to keep pace with the changing scenario.”

Addressing the students of VR Siddhartha Engineering College, he elaborated on how the center initiated skill development initiatives for the students.

Competitions in poster making and problem solving were organized on the themes of “Innovation for Rural Areas” and “Smart Cities”.

More than 250 students from different engineering colleges divided into 50 teams participated with enthusiasm in the two events. The students showcased their innovative streak, focusing on the areas of agriculture, health, rural development, urban development, transportation, additive manufacturing, industrial Internet of Things, robotics and augmented reality among other fields.

In PB Siddhartha College of Arts and Science, the Department of English organizes competitions in essay writing and speech on the life and achievements of Dr. Abdul Kalam.

Principal M. Ramesh said that the students should take inspiration from the life of Kalam. Dean Rajesh J. told about the invaluable contribution of the former President in the field of science and technology.

Head of the English Department G. Srilatha spoke about the major factors in the books written by Abdul Kalam.

Later prizes were given to the winners of the competitions.
