Pat Cummins played one of the most explosive innings in IPL history to guide Kolkata Knight Riders to a 5 wicket win over Mumbai Indians at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. Cummins scored the joint-fastest fifty in Indian Premier League history – in 14 balls with 4 overs to spare for his team. On a surface where other batsmen were struggling to score runs at a healthy rate, Cummins smashed almost everything for a boundary during his innings of 56 off 15 balls. He played a brilliant innings with the help of 6 sixes and 4 fours.

Cummins came out to bat after KKR lost Andre Russell for 11 runs as the match was hanging midway. The Australian all-rounder lashed out at Tymal Mills, Jasprit Bumrah and Daniel Sams and snatched the game from Mumbai.

It was as if Cummins was compensating for Mumbai Indians’ 21 in the final over of the innings, but in the quest to do so, he created history by equaling KL Rahul’s record for the joint-fastest IPL fifty.

Electing to bowl after winning the toss, KKR posted MI at 55 for three in the 11th over to make it 161 for four.

In reply, KKR chased down the target of 162 runs with 24 balls to spare. Pat Cummins scored 56 off 15 balls while Venkatesh Iyer remained unbeaten on 50.

Suryakumar Yadav scored 52 runs in 36 balls for Mumbai, while Tilak Verma scored 38 runs in 27 balls.

Kieron Pollard scored an unbeaten 22 runs in five balls.
