Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal urges steel makers to give relief to small industries

The government has urged steel makers to explore possibilities of providing relief to small scale industries which use the metal for production of various components and products.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday appealed to steel makers to assess the manufacturing cost and explore possibilities of giving relief to small industries using the commodity for production purposes.

The issue was discussed in the meeting held with representatives of steel industry and genuine industry.

The meeting was organized to address the issues raised by small scale industries and exporters regarding steel input prices.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Goyal said that “Easy and cost-effective supply of steel requires special attention of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)”.

He asked the steel industry stakeholders to assess the manufacturing cost and explore the possibilities of providing relief to small industries which use steel as input for manufacturing components and other engineering products.

Stakeholders of the steel industry showed their intention to support small and medium enterprises and exporters.He assured small enterprises and exporters to find affordable solutions to address their challenges especially in the wake of the pandemic.

Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) chairperson Soma Mandal, Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd chief Atul Bhatt, JSW Steel chief Sajjan Jindal as well as Tata Steel CEO and Managing Director TV Narendran were also present in the meeting.
