Committee’s picket to demand withdrawal of UAPA

Members of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Raddu Poorata committee, staged a sit-in on Tuesday, demanding that the government repeal the law, which they alleged was often used to harass ‘rights activists’.

The protesters alleged that the state government was trying to suppress the voices of civil rights activists, who were questioning the police’s arbitrariness and violation of the law.

They raised slogans demanding the government to abolish UAPA and save democracy.

Sirisha, wife of slain Maoist RK, and activists of various civil rights organizations took part in the dharna.
