Commonwealth Games 2022: Ceremony begins at home of gold medalist Mirabai Chanu

The celebrations began in Manipur’s Nongpok Kakching, the native place of Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, who won a gold medal for India. Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham on Saturday. Mirabai Chanu’s family, relatives and neighbors rejoiced on this proud achievement.

Olympic medalist and ace lifter Mirabai Chanu has won India’s first gold medal in the women’s 49kg weightlifting category. She put on a total of 201 kg (88 kg 113 kg) to seal her right in the competition and achieve a Commonwealth Games record in the process.

After Chanu’s victory, her mother Tambu Devi said that the night before the competition she was very restless and could not even sleep.

“I’ve been just praying for him since yesterday and I can’t even sleep. Just before the moment of his victory, I was worried for him and many thoughts were running through my mind. But this proud achievement made me feel relaxed. Has given,” his mother told news agency ANI.

Chanu’s mother said that she had tears in her eyes when she saw her daughter win a gold medal in the Commonwealth Games 2022. “Everyone including his sisters, family, friends and neighbors is joining in his victory,” he said.

Mirabai’s cousin Binoy said she was already confident that she was going to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games this time.

The first attempt in the snatch was smooth before Chanu lifted 88kg in the second before dropping 90kg for the third and final attempt. She was not able to record a new personal best, but still went into the clean and jerk with a 12kg advantage over Ranivosoa.
