NEW DELHI: Several incidents of communal violence have been reported in India since Saturday.
22 people including two minors have been arrested in Delhi Crowd Violence during Hanuman Jayanti procession Jahangirpuri,
Prohibitory orders under section 144 have been imposed in Karnataka’s Hubballi town following communal violence over a social media post in which 12 police personnel were injured.
Incidents of erupting during Hanuman Jayanti processions were also reported from Andhra Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Delhi
Uneasy calm prevails in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri, a day after clashes broke out between two communities during Hanuman Jayanti procession.
Delhi Police has arrested 22 people in connection with the violence, including the “main conspirator” behind the clashes, and another man who allegedly shot a sub-inspector, officials said on Sunday.
Two teenagers have also been arrested in connection with the incident, he said.
Police said stone pelting and arson occurred during clashes between the two communities in which eight policemen and a local were injured. Some vehicles were also set on fire.
Officials said that the case has been transferred to the Crime Branch which will conduct further investigation in the matter with the help of the district police.
Police officials said Ansar (35), a resident of Jahangirpuri, was one of the “main conspirators” behind the violence. Police said he was found to be involved in two cases of assault earlier as well, and was repeatedly arrested under preventive sections and booked five times under the Gambling Act and the Arms Act.
However, Ansar’s wife told reporters that her husband was innocent and was not a part of any violence.
Meanwhile, heavy police force was deployed on Sunday in Jahangirpuri area where the clash took place. Flag march is also being done along with foot and motorcycle patrolling. Drones were also used in this process to monitor the activities and ensure that no untoward incident takes place.
Karnataka
A mob attacked police personnel, a hospital and a temple in Hubli on Sunday over a social media post.
According to Hubli-Dharwad Police Commissioner Labhu Ram, a complaint was lodged with the police over an objectionable social media post following which a person was arrested.

Not satisfied with the action, some people gathered around the police station but were persuaded to disperse. Around midnight, once again a large number of people gathered around the police station and pelted stones fiercely.
Around a dozen police officers were injured in the incident, several police vehicles, a nearby hospital and a Hanuman temple were damaged, police said.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai termed it as an organized attack and said the state would not tolerate such incidents. He also appealed to the people not to give a different political color to the incident as it should be seen from law and order point of view.
State Home Minister Araga Gyanendra said, “It was a pre-planned attack. The miscreants wanted to carry out incidents like Devara Jeevahalli and Kadugondahalli in Hubballi.”
Andhra Pradesh

When the procession reached a mosque in the village, the organizers of the jubilee turned off the mic in honor of Ramzan. But some devotees allegedly raised slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’, police officials said.
Police said that some angry people started pelting stones on Hanuman Jayanti procession and the other side retaliated.
Additional police force was deployed to prevent any untoward incident.
Though there was tension, but after the intervention of the police and pacifying both the sides, the situation returned to normal.
Uttarakhand
In Uttarakhand, four people were injured when a Hanuman Jayanti procession was pelted with stones while passing through a village in Bhagwanpur area near Roorkee in Haridwar district on Saturday evening.
DIG Garhwal range KS Nagnyal said the gathering of people from nearby villages led to tension in the area, but the situation was brought under control by timely intervention of the police.

Nine people were arrested in connection with the incident and an FIR was registered against 13.
Stones were thrown from the roofs on the procession passing through Dada Jalalpur village. Haridwar SP (Rural) Pramendra Doval said it led to a stampede-like situation as the people involved in the procession started running for cover but the police were immediately informed and the situation was brought under control.
Growing communal tension
Since 2 April, several incidents of communal clashes have been reported during Hindu religious processions including Ram Navami on 10 April. Hindu and Muslim organizations have accused each other of inciting violence.
Top leaders of 13 opposition parties on Saturday expressed deep concern over the recent incidents of hate speech and communal violence in the country and urged people to maintain peace and harmony.

In a joint statement, leaders including Congress President Sonia Gandhi, NCP chief Sharad Pawar and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged that issues related to food, dress, faith, festivals and language were being used to deliberately polarize the ruling establishment. The BJP, however, hit back and alleged that the “ideology of appeasement” has been adopted for the communal riots that have taken place across the country in the last 70 years.
