Competition Commission order will hurt digitization in India: Google

Google on Friday hit out at reporting imposing a fine on it for abusing its dominant position, saying it would hurt digitization in India and increase sales.

The Computing Commission of India (CCI) had imposed a total fine of over Rs 2,200 crore on Google. Struggling to get relief from the measure, the US tech company wrote in a blog on how the order would harm digital access in the country.

The blog states that India is an inflection point where access barriers should be reduced and all secure smartphones should be seen.

Google said, “At a time when only a fraction of India’s population is digitally connected earlier, the directions given in the CCI order are an assault on the country’s digitization fast-start. Said he is appealing to complain.

In October, CCI fined Google over Rs 2,200 crore for scoring two centuries in less than a week. The directive on October 20 imposed a fine of Rs 1,337.76 crore on Google for violating strong position in multiple MERS with respect to Android mobile devices. After this, on October 25, the CCI imposed a fine of Rs 936.44 crore on Google for making disturbances in ‘Playstore’.
