Congress alleges, ‘pressure’ on rebel BJP leader against contesting HP elections on PM Modi, shared video

Congress on Sunday accused the Prime Minister Narendra Modi Accused a rebel BJP leader of “pressure” against contesting the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections and alleged that he is “misusing his power” to influence free and fair elections.

Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi quoted a video going viral on social media platforms to claim that Modi’s voice is being heard in a call with BJP rebel Kripal Parmar.

Singhvi alleged that the prime minister was “pressurizing” and “emotionally blackmailing” the leader over phone to not contest as an independent candidate from Fatehpur seat in Kangra district.

At a press conference in All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters, he claimed, that such developments show that the prime minister has received a “problematic priority list that is inverted and distorted”.

“Not governance, but campaigning is the favorite job of the BJP government and its chief executive,” Singhvi said.

“The Prime Minister is abusing his power to influence free and fair elections. It would be clear electoral malpractice if not a corrupt electoral practice,” he said, referring to the video.

Whatever remedies are available to Congress by way of complaint Election Singhvi said that the Commission and elsewhere would be used by the party.

“The BJP is losing ground in Himachal Pradesh and is about to lose. Such actions and words reflect his fear, frustration and insecurity.”

“We leave it to the country whether the post of honorable prime minister should stoop to such a level for an MLA election,” he said.

Attacking Modi, Singhvi said that if the chief executive of the country and the de facto chief executive of the BJP can go to such an extent to win a particular seat, it is the best validation of the already proven track record of the BJP that To what extent can the ruling party go and bring down the elected governments. “He already has a hard-earned PhD in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa, Manipur and many other such milestones,” he alleged.

Instead of controlling the “disastrous” economy and ensuring good governance, Prime Minister Modi on Saturday visited Radha Swami Satsang in Amritsar’s Beas and met its chief Baba Gurinder Singh Dhillon, as the Dera had a significant impact in Himachal Pradesh. Yes, said the Congress leader.

“The desperation and fear are great in such actions. BJP remembers religion only when votes are reduced.

Criticizing the BJP-led government over the state of the economy, Singhvi said one issue that should be the number one priority for the prime minister, the ruling party and the government is rising inflation. “The combined consumer price index (CPI) rose to 7.41 per cent in September. More worryingly, the rural CPI rose even more than the already high urban CPI – indicating a slightly higher impact of inflation in rural India,” he said.

“Second, the Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI) has risen 8.6 per cent year-on-year this month. This means that the food prices are increasing the prices, killing the common man in the solar plexus,” said the Rajya Sabha MP.

He said the increase in CPI inflation in September is mainly driven by vegetables (18.05 per cent), spices (16.88 per cent), and cereals and products (11.53 per cent). This September, inflation figures for cereals and products were the highest since September 2013, he said, coupled with a decline in manufacturing, which contracted by 0.7 per cent.

According to the Center for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), the rural unemployment rate stood at 8.04 per cent in October as against 5.84 per cent in September, while urban unemployment fell to 7.21 per cent from 7.7 per cent in September.

Taking a jibe at Modi, he said, “The country is running on autopilot as the chief pilot is riding dera and campaigning.”

“The country is like Rome, which is on fire and the Prime Minister is like Nero who is playing the music of election jingles,” Singhvi said.
