Congress chief election: Mallikarjun Kharge in race, Digvijay withdraws

As Mallikarjun Kharge is likely to file his nomination for the post of Congress President today, Congress leader Digvijay Singh has announced that he will not contest, ANI reported.

Earlier there was news that Shashi Tharoor and Digvijay Singh would contest the elections. However, with the recent filing of nominations, Digvijay Singh has withdrawn from the race and has announced the support of his senior Mallikarjun Kharge.

“Kharge ji is my leader and my senior. I asked him yesterday if he wants to contest elections. He said no. I met him again today. I told him that if you are contesting the election, I am totally against you. I am with you. I can’t even imagine. Contesting against him. He is filing his nomination and I will be his proposer.”

“Somethings are non-negotiable in my life. I do not compromise on issues related to Dalits, Adivasis and OBCs. I do not compromise with those who disturb communal harmony and I do not compromise on my commitment to the Gandhi family, ” They said.

The nominations for the post of Congress President will close at 3 pm today and the results will be declared on October 19.

Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tiwari has also confirmed that senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge will contest the election of party president.

Manish Tewari from G23 will be another possible candidate for the post of Congress President

Another possible candidate in the Congress Presidential election will be Manish Tewari, who is contemplating filing nominations, reported ANI. Notably, Manish Tewari is the face of the G-23 group of leaders who are demanding reforms in the party.

All G-23 leaders including former Union Minister Manish Tewari, former Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan and former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda met at Anand Sharma’s residence on Thursday evening.

Manish Tewari said, “No one has filed nominations yet. Once it is done, there will be contemplation. The democratic process has started. BS Hooda, Anand Sharma, Prithviraj Chavan and I sat for deliberations. and discussed the incidents.” Habitat.

When asked whether the G-23 would support candidates whose names have come up for the Congress presidential election so far, Tewari said, “Days pass between submission, filing and withdrawal of nomination papers. Decision is taken. Will be taken at that time. In English it is called politics. ‘It is the primacy of possibilities. Let’s see what happens tomorrow.’

From the comments of the G23 leaders, it can be inferred that they do not see Shashi Tharoor representing their voice in the election, reported ANI.

This time Congress will get its first non-Gandhi president

Notably, this will be the first time that the grand old party will be headed by a non-Gandhi president after more than 25 years. This time not a single person from the Gandhi family is taking part in the elections.

The seat of Congress President was almost confirmed for Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, who was leading the election. But the political turmoil in Rajasthan pushed him out of the election. The Rajasthan CM announced his withdrawal from the elections after meeting Sonia Gandhi on Thursday. Addressing media persons in the national capital after the meeting, Gehlot said he has apologized to his loyalists for the scenario created in the state.
