Congress main election schedule possible in 3-4 days: Report

Congress sources said on Monday that the detailed schedule for the election of the party president is likely to be released in the next three-four days. The next Congress president will be elected by September 20. The party’s Central Election Authority chairman Madhusudan Mistry said it is up to the Congress Working Committee (CWC) to approve the last date for the election of the Congress president. Madhusudan Mistry said, ‘We are ready from our side.

A top source was quoted by PTI as saying, “The schedule for the election of the Congress president should be released in the next 3-4 days. It will have a detailed schedule with the dates for filing of nominations and withdrawal of nominations.”

Last year, at a crucial meeting of the working committee, the Congress had announced that the party chief would be between August 21 and September 20, 2022.

The question in the mind of every Congress leader is whether Rahul Gandhi will agree to lead the party again or not.

Rahul Gandhi, who had served as the Congress president, resigned in 2019 after the party suffered a second consecutive defeat in the parliamentary elections. After Rahul Gandhi resigned, Sonia Gandhi took over the reins of the party again as the interim president.

Sonia Gandhi had offered to step down in August 2020 after an open rebellion by a section of leaders, known as the G-23. He took back the reins of the party as interim chief after the CWC urged him to continue.

There have been several calls by leaders to publicly encourage Rahul Gandhi to become the party chief again, but the presidency of the party remains uncertain and suspenseful.
