Congress president election: Digvijay Singh confirmed to run for top post

With only one day left to file nominations for Congress president election and no form filled due to Rajasthan crisis, senior party leader Digvijay Singh has decided to contest, news agencies reported.

“Today I have come here to collect my nomination papers (for Congress president election) and will file it tomorrow,” the Congress leader said. Digvijay SinghANI told.

Singh reached Delhi late on Wednesday night leaving India in the middle of the pair’s journey.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot was considered a top contender in the elections, but the crisis in Rajasthan, for which three of his loyalists have been served show cause notices, has created some uncertainty about his candidature.

Till now Gehlot and Tharoor were considered as the two prime candidates for the post and Digvijay Singh’s possible candidature has added a new twist to the fight. Shashi Tharoor can also file his nomination on September 30 to contest the election of party president.

According to a report in PTIMany names have surfaced for the post of party president. These include Mallikarjun Kharge, Antony, Kamal Nath, Ambika Soni and Pawan Kumar Bansal, though most of them found themselves out of the race.

Nominations can be filed between 11 am to 3 pm on Friday. After scrutiny of nomination papers on October 1, the last date for withdrawal of nominations is October 8. In case of more than one candidate, elections will be held on 17 October 2022 (Monday) between 10 AM to 4 PM in all State Congress Committee Headquarters. , Result will come on 19th October

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is likely to meet Congress President Sonia Gandhi today in an attempt to resolve the crisis raging in Rajasthan, as MPs close to him opposed the elevation of his rival Sachin Pilot to the state’s top job. . The MPs sought Gehlot’s opinion in choosing his successor if he was elected as the party chief.
