Veteran Congress Leader, Mallikarjun Kharge, who is in fray for AICC president electionsaid on 8 October that his age was not a deterrent to his election and was committed to implementing the party’s decision to give 50% of party positions more space in decision-making to youth.

Mr Kharge, who was in Hyderabad to meet PCC representatives and seek their support, dismissed the argument that “the old party was looking at an 80-year-old man for its revival”.

Talking to reporters, he said, “I am 80 years old but my commitment towards ‘Udaipur Declaration’ to encourage youth remains youthful.”

“If elected as the Congress president, we will include youth from all sections of society focusing on farmers, women and all social groups,” he said.

“It is not the ‘I’ but the concept of ‘we’ that I believe in.”

He was referring to the recommendations of the ‘Chintan Shivir’ organized in Rajasthan in May this year, where the party’s ticket during the elections was emphasized to provide opportunities to youth and party functionaries as well.

He said senior leaders and Congress workers supported his candidature for the election, which is being witnessed for the fifth time in its 138-year-old history. He also criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for raising irrelevant issues on the party elections and said that it is ridiculous that a party which appoints its president without any democratic practices, tries to find fault in the Congress elections. Still working.

Mr Kharge also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, saying they want to destroy the Constitution. “They have failed on all issues and their economic policies were disastrous. Their ridiculous argument on Congress doing nothing in 75 years shows that when they are selling all PSUs created by Congress governments to make money. They are blinded by the achievements of the Congress in agriculture, irrigation projects and the wealth created in India.

KCR’s ‘Love Failure’

Earlier, while addressing Congress representatives, Mr Kharge described Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao as a man who loved one but got married to another. He was indirectly referring to how he wanted his party to merge with the Congress after Telangana was announced but joined hands with the BJP after Telangana came into existence.
