Congress President Election: Shashi Tharoor to file nomination today

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor will file his nomination for this on Friday. Digvijay Singh withdrew his nomination after Mallikarjun Kharge announced his nomination for the post.

According to an agency report, Shashi Tharoor will visit 24 Akbar Road tomorrow at 12.15 pm. After filing the nomination, Shashi Tharoor will hold a press conference at 1.00 pm at his residence at 97 Lodhi Estate. Digvijay Singh will also have to file his nomination to vote on the same day between 11 am and 3 pm, but he backtracked.

Yesterday, Shashi Tharoor not only welcomed Digvijay Singh’s candidature but also said that he has agreed to consider it a friendly contest. Taking it on Twitter, Shashi Tharoor his fight will not be between two rivals but between allies, as both want the Indian National Congress to win.

Earlier, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot was considered to be the frontrunner in the race for Congress party president. But after the political crisis in Rajasthan, he announced his withdrawal from the election.

“I met Rahul Gandhi in Kochi and requested him to contest (for Congress President). When he did not accept, I said I will contest but now with that incident (political crisis in Rajasthan), I have not Have decided to contest the elections,” said CM Gehlot.

Gehlot’s announcement came after visiting the residence of party interim chief Sonia Gandhi at 10 Janpath in the national capital.

The Rajasthan chief minister apologized for the uproar in Rajasthan over the possible candidature of Sachin Pilot as the next chief minister of Rajasthan, which was set by Gehlot to file his nomination. In a similar context, Gehlot said that whatever happened in the state in the last two days has shocked everyone.

Responding to a question about his future CM post in Rajasthan, the Rajasthan CM said, “I will not decide that, Congress President Sonia Gandhi will decide that.”

“One-line resolution is our tradition. Unfortunately such a situation arose that the resolution was not passed. It was my moral responsibility (to pass the resolution), but despite being the chief minister, I could not get it passed,” he said.

Talking to the reporters of the agency, Ashok Gehlot said that the party works under the Congress President. Major decisions that will decide the fate of the party will be taken in future. He also addressed the concerns of the Congress party workers about the future of the party and how it will progress under the new leadership.
