Congress promises Rs 2,000 per month for “female head of household” in Karnataka

Priyanka Gandhi addressed the “Na Nayaki” event in Bengaluru.

Bengaluru:

The Congress in Karnataka on Monday promised Rs 2,000 per month to each female head of the household if the party is voted to power in the state. The announcement was made at a conference by Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who said that Rs 24,000 per year would be deposited directly into their bank accounts under the “Griha Laxmi Yojana”, an “unconditional universal basic income”.

The promise comes within days of the Congress announcing 200 units of free electricity every month to each household in the state, where assembly elections are due in May.

The party said the ‘Griha Laxmi Yojana’ is the Congress party’s attempt to share the burden of exorbitant LPG prices and the “expensive daily expenses” borne by a woman.

Congress wants every woman of the state to be empowered and able to stand on her own feet and also take care of her children. The party wants to provide financial independence to every woman of Karnataka.

The party said the scheme would benefit over 1.5 crore women.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said a separate manifesto for women would be released in the state and alleged rampant corruption in the BJP-ruled state.

“I am told that the situation in Karnataka is very shameful. I am told that your ministers are taking 40 per cent commission on jobs,” Ms Vadra said during the women-centric title ‘Na Nayaki’ (I am a woman leader). “

He alleged that Rs 1.5 lakh crore of public money has been looted in Karnataka.

Ms Vadra alleged, “Think of some development that is to take place in Bengaluru for Rs 8,000 crore and Rs 3,200 crore going into commission.”

Referring to the alleged police sub-inspector recruitment scam, Ms Vadra said, “Nothing happens in Karnataka without bribery.” “There are shameful scams like PSI scam where police posts are being sold. You educate your children, young boys and girls to get jobs. Is this what you expect from people in power?” the Congress leader asked.

He alleged that people have to pay bribe for borewells, driving license, housing, transfers and almost everything related to government work.
