Congress steering panel to meet plenary, strategy for Parliament session on December 4

The Congress is likely to finalize its strategy for the winter session of Parliament and the dates for its plenary session at the first meeting of its steering committee headed by party chief Mallikarjun Kharge on December 4.

Sources said this will be the first meeting of the Congress Steering Committee, which was formed in place of the party’s highest decision-making working committee after Kharge took over as the new chief last month.

Sources said that during the all-important meeting, the party’s strategy ahead would also be discussed and preparations for the “Bharat Jodo Yatra”, which ushers in Hindi-speaking states, would also be discussed.

Several organizational matters will also be discussed during the meeting, he said.

Soon after Kharge took over as the Congress President, all the members of the CWC were made part of the steering committee.

Kharge’s election as Congress president will be confirmed at the party’s plenary session, likely to be held in March next year, and its dates may be finalized during the meeting.

The winter session of Parliament will begin on December 7 and end on December 29.

Kharge was the first non-Gandhi to be elected as Congress president after a gap of 24 years, defeating Shashi Tharoor in a direct contest for the party’s top post.

Over 9,000 Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) representatives will be present at the plenary session of the party.
