“Nevertheless, the NDPP-BJP government, in clear violation of the constitutional principles of separation of powers between the legislature, judiciary and executive, which is the basic structure of the Constitution of India, has conferred executive powers in the form of advisors to 24 them (MLAs),” Mr. Thunuo said.

The Congress also expressed concern over the appointment of Mhathung Yanthan as the pro-tem speaker.

“This is also contrary to the prescribed norms as Mr. Yanthan was already given executive powers as advisor on March 9 along with 23 other members of the NDPP-BJP government, while he was sworn in as pro tem speaker only on March 9 It was 10 March.

“Such disregard of the law by the NDPP-BJP is highly shameful and unacceptable,” he added.

The Congress, which did not win any seats in the state polls, sought the Governor’s intervention to quash the appointment of advisors and the pro-tem speaker.

The notification, issued on March 9, states that the advisors will give their advice on matters referred to them by the departments concerned before they are taken up by the minister in charge for decision.
