The highest decision-making body of the Congress will also discuss the upcoming assembly elections and the current political situation.

This will be the first in-person meeting of the CWC since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020. The meeting will be attended by Congress-ruled chief ministers as well as members of the CWC, permanent invitees and special invitees of the committee. states.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, confirming his participation in the CWC meeting, said, “I am going to attend the Congress Working Committee meeting on Saturday to discuss the upcoming assembly elections as well as organizational elections.

Today’s meeting assumes significance as the CWC will discuss organizational elections, a long-pending demand of G-23 leaders. Recently, G-23 member Ghulam Nabi Azad wrote to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi asking her to convene an immediate meeting of the CWC.

Another member of the group, Kapil Sibal, courted controversy after holding a press conference in September, where he said, “In our party, there is no president, so we don’t know who is taking these decisions. We know and yet we don’t know.”

Later, Congress workers staged a protest outside his residence in the national capital. AICC general secretary Ajay Maken had said that Sibal should not insult the organization which gave him an identity.

In the last CWC meeting, it was decided to postpone the internal elections in view of the second wave of COVID-19. However, no timeline was given regarding the schedule of these elections.

A senior Congress functionary had earlier said that since assembly elections in five important states are due in a few months, there is a possibility that internal elections will be postponed till then, but the final decision will be taken with the consent of all CWC members. .
