Controversy over transmission of other religions in Durga Mandir; Police registered case

A television channel allegedly showed activities of other religions which irritated some devotees.

Mild tension prevailed near Sri Durga Malleswara Swamivala Devasthanam when a private television channel, which had arranged an LED screen for broadcasting the Dussehra festival, promoted another religion on Thursday.

The organizers of the television channel, which was broadcasting the Durga Utsav over Indrakeeladri, and other places around the temple, suddenly carried on activities of another religion which irritated the devotees.

A devotee pelted stones at the LED screen installed near the Model Guest House on the banks of the Krishna river.

The screen was damaged and there was an argument among some other devotees over the broadcast.

Police deployed at the guest house and other places reached the spot and pacified the devotees. They stopped broadcasting in the temple and brought the situation under control.

One Town CI P Venkateswaralu said the temple executive officer D. Bramaramba has filed a complaint on the issue and a case has been registered against C-Channel, Keerthi Creations and other organisations.

“We are in the process of identifying the CCTV footage and detailed investigation is on. However, no arrests have been made so far,” Mr Venkateswaralu told The Hindu on Friday.
