Cooking gas just got expensive, but tweeple shook the pot through memes

The price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders for domestic use has been hiked again by Rs 50 in several Indian cities. The country has been experiencing a jump in prices for some time now. After the latest price hike, a 14.2 kg domestic cylinder in Delhi will cost Rs 999.50, up from the previous price of Rs 949.50, news agency ANI reported that day. While many were disappointed with this price hike, Twitter users used this opportunity to create memes and make netizens laugh. Here are some Twitter reactions that need to be read:

Earlier on May 1, the prices of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders were also increased in Delhi by Rs 102 from Rs 2,253. The prices were hiked in other cities also. Restaurants, eateries, tea stalls and others constitute the largest user segment of the 19 kg cylinder. At that time the price of 5 kg LPG cylinder was also increased to Rs 665.

Earlier, after a six-month freeze from October last year, the price of domestic LPG cylinders was increased by Rs 50 across India on March 22. This was done after a sharp increase in the price of petrol and also the prices of diesel amid rising crude oil prices. The prices of LPG cylinders have increased today amid rising inflation rate in the country. Retail inflation exceeded expectations in March, and is expected to rise further in April. To tackle inflation, the Reserve Bank of India has raised its prime lending rates by 40 basis points for the first time since August 2018.
