COP26 Summit | India aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2070: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s British counterpart Boris Johnson was accorded a warm welcome on his arrival at the Scottish Exhibition Centre. CoP26 Climate Summit Where he gave the much-awaited national statement.

In his speech at the CoP26 summit, Mr Modi said, “India is working very hard to tackle the issues related to climate change.”

Shri Modi also called for making ‘Lifestyle for the Environment’ a global mission.

In his speech, Mr. Modi said “India is committed to achieving absolute net-zero by 2070Significantly reduce the use of fossil fuels and increase the use of renewable energy by 2030.

“So far all climate finance promises have been hollow; developed countries must ensure climate finance of $1 trillion at the earliest,” the prime minister said.

The need of the hour is to put pressure on countries that have failed to deliver on their promises regarding climate finance, Mr Modi said.

Mr Modi said “India’s contribution to climate change mitigation far exceeds its role in emissions.”

He further said, “India will reduce carbon emissions by 1 billion tonnes out of total projected emissions by 2030. India will reduce carbon intensity by 45%.”
