Copenhagen’s Geranium Tops World’s Best Restaurants 2022 List

The much-awaited list of world’s best restaurants 2022 is out and this year Geranium restaurant in Copenhagen, Denmark tops the list. Run by chef Rasmus Kofoed, Geranium is the second Danish restaurant to top the list for the second year in a row after last year’s winner Noma, which is also based in Copenhagen. The announcement was made at a Starry Awards ceremony held in London. The list of winners for 2022 also includes restaurants from 24 countries across five continents. In addition, the list has also introduced 12 restaurants that made their debut.

Speaking of Geranium, it is a fine-dining, serving food “that engages all our senses – restored, challenges and enriches,” the restaurant’s official website reads. The restaurant, launched in 2010, is located on the eighth floor of a stadium located in the heart of Copenhagen. The website further reads, “The location emphasizes Geranium’s approach to gastronomic clarity and diversity. We explore an area of ​​tension between the urban and the natural.” Speaking of the win, Chef Kofoed said, “All the odds were against us,” reads a Bloomberg report. For those unaware, this Danish restaurant also received the first three Michelin stars for Denmark in 2016.

The Bloomberg report further states that this year the award for the second best restaurant in the world went to Central, Lima. Barcelona’s Restaurant Disfrutter took third place.

Colombian chef Leonor Espinosa was named “the world’s best female chef” and her restaurant Leo was ranked 48th on the list, according to AFP.

Every year, the list of the 50 best restaurants in the world is organized and compiled by UK-based William Reed Business Media. The listing debuted in Restaurant Magazine in 2002.
