Biologic E’s Corbevax is approved as a booster dose for vaccinated adults who have received Covishield or Covaxin

Official sources said today that the government has approved the biological E K Corbevax as a precautionary dose or booster jab for people above 18 years of age fully vaccinated with CovaShield or Covaxin.
This is the first time that a booster dose has been allowed in the country which is different from the dose used for primary vaccination against COVID.
Sources told the Press Trust of India that the Union Health Ministry’s approval is based on the recommendations made by the COVID-19 Working Group of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI) recently.
“Corbevax shall be considered as a precautionary dose after the completion of six months or 26 weeks from the date of administration of the second dose of Covaxin or Covashield vaccines to persons over 18 years of age who have been diagnosed with an asymptomatic COVID-19 The vaccine enables use as a precautionary dose administration in this age group,” sources told the Press Trust of India.
Sources said that this would be in addition to the existing guidelines for home precautionary dosage administration of Covaxin and Covishield Vaccine.
All necessary changes are being made regarding the administration of the precautionary dose of Corbevax vaccine on the Co-WIN portal.
