₹400-crore. The unit will help in reducing imports.

Agri-solutions provider Coromandel International Ltd on Tuesday announced plans to set up a Rs 400-crore sulfuric acid facility at its existing fertilizer complex in Visakhapatnam.

The Murugappa Group company said the new unit would have a production capacity of 1,650 tonnes per day.

This investment was in line with the long-term objective of securing key raw materials for fertilizer production, it said in a statement.

Coromandel also said that it has entered into technology partnership agreements with Monsanto Enviro-Chem Systems and ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions for the project.

In line with the Prime Minister’s vision to promote import substitution and local manufacturing, Coromandel announced the setting up of a new 1,650 TPD sulfuric acid plant in Visakhapatnam, Executive Vice President Arun Alagappan said.

Considering the essential nature of fertilizers, the firm’s investment will improve self-sufficiency and availability of phosphatic fertilizers in the country, Mr Alagappan said, adding that the project will play a vital role in reducing the import of sulfuric acid in our country.
