Coronavirus: Additional restrictions in Coimbatore from September 17

All shops except those selling milk, medicines, vegetables and groceries will remain closed on Sunday.

The Coimbatore district administration has imposed new restrictions to control the spread of COVID-19 from September 17.

In a release issued on Wednesday, Collector GS Samiran said that all shops except those selling milk, medicine, vegetables and groceries will remain closed on Sunday. Department stores and supermarkets will also have to be closed.

All restaurants and bakeries provide parcel services only on Sundays and that too from 8 am to 10 pm. All malls, cinemas, parks and tourist places will remain closed on Sunday.

The administration will allow wholesale markets to function, but on rotation basis with only 50% traders at a time. Similarly, farmers selling produce in farmers’ markets (Uzhavar Sandhi) will be allowed on rotation basis. And, the restrictions already in place for all other markets including the weekly markets will continue.

The release also said that the Pollachi animal market will be open for local customers only. Buyers from other districts or states will not be allowed. Pollachi sub collector will ensure this.

From September 20, the management or owners of malls, clothing stores, jewelery stores and other shops should ensure that their employees have received at least the first dose of the vaccine. They should also take the responsibility of educating their customers, said the collector and want them all to follow the COVID-19 appropriate behavior as the number of positive case was increasing.
