Coronavirus and diabetes: How viral infection is making you prone to high blood sugar and what symptoms you should watch out for. The Times of India

Based on the results of several other studies and cases of high blood sugar reported after initial coronavirus infection, scientists are still trying to understand the type of diabetes caused by COVID-19. Both adults and adolescents are reported to be diagnosed with relatively high blood sugar levels, so it is confusing to say whether it is type 1 or type 2 diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes is caused by a number of factors, such as environmental and genetics, which is much more complex than the causes of type 2 diabetes. So, the chances of coronavirus causing type 1 diabetes are quite low.

When it comes to type 2 diabetes, scientists believe that lifestyle changes due to the pandemic and the impact of the coronavirus on the body could possibly lead to this type of diabetes. However, nothing can be confirmed. The major confusion is that neither of the two types of diabetes is temporary. They are lifelong conditions and once they are diagnosed, the patient always needs to take medication and follow other precautionary measures. Diabetes that occurs after coronavirus infection is temporary and is suspected to be a new type of diabetes. More research is needed to get a better understanding of the condition.
