Daily increase in COVID-19 cases highest in 239 days

According to the Union Health Ministry, India witnessed a single-day jump of 2,64,202 new coronavirus infections, the highest in 239 days, taking the total number of COVID-19 cases to 3,65,82,129, including 5,753 of the Omicron version. cases are included. Data updated on Friday.

Delhi govt suspends routine, elective surgeries in LNJP, GTB hospitals

Officials said the Delhi government has suspended routine and elective surgeries at LNJP and GTB hospitals to deal with the rising cases of coronavirus in the national capital.

According to health department data, Delhi on Thursday recorded 28,867 COVID-19 cases, the sharpest one-day spike and 31 deaths since the pandemic began, while the positivity rate rose to 29.21 per cent. Delhi’s previous biggest daily jump of 28,395 cases was recorded on April 20 last year. -PTI

Most of the COVID patients in Ernakulam in the age group of 30-45

According to the health department, people in the age group of 30-45 have been found to be more infected in the latest spike in COVID-19 cases in Ernakulam.

The increase in cases in this age group may be due to their frequent movement in public places as compared to other age groups including the elderly. District Medical Officer Dr. V. According to Delhi government data, of the 97 COVID-related deaths in the capital between January 9 and January 12, nearly three-fourths were of unvaccinated people.

Of the 97 people who died, seventy had not been vaccinated and 19 had received only one dose of the vaccine, while only eight had received both doses.

Bengaluru civic body issues fresh advisory for apartment complexes

With apartment complexes mainly in containment zones, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Thursday issued a new advisory urging residents to avoid gyms, swimming pools and other sports facilities. Events and gatherings in clubhouses or community halls should be avoided

The containment strategy has also been clarified in the advisory. If there is a single case on any floor, the individual flats on that floor will be declared as a containment zone. If there are three cases in one floor, then the entire floor will be a containment zone.

If there are 10 cases in a tower, either on a single floor or on multiple floors, then the entire tower will be considered as a containment zone. In cases where apartment complexes of 50-100 houses have 50 cases, or premises with less than 100 houses have less than a hundred cases, the entire premises will be declared a containment zone.
