‘Could have been pushed’: Irfan Pathan questions logic behind his former teammate going unsold in IPL 2022 auction

Unsold Suresh Raina raised a lot of eyebrows in the mega auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. One of the best performers in the league, Raina could not find any buyers. It was even more surprising when Chennai Super Kings officials showed no interest in bringing back their top scorer in the camp.

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan was one of the few who tried to understand the logic behind Raina not getting any buyers. Taking to Twitter after the conclusion of the mega auction, former right-armer Tej Pathan felt that if overseas players have bagged huge contracts at the age of 40, Raina, who is just 35, should be at least Could have been pushed by a franchise. “Still looks like Raina could have been pushed. We have seen some foreign players who have played IPL till 40. Raina is 35! a bad weather. #MrIPL,” he tweeted.

Raina is the fourth highest run scorer in IPL history. He has been a part of 13 out of 14 IPL seasons so far. The left-hander went unsold on the first day of the mega event and could not make it to the quick round on Sunday.

204 players were sold in the IPL 2022 mega auction. Of these, 67 were foreigners while the rest are Indians. At the same time, 396 players remained unsold. The list includes some notable names like Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, South African spinner Imran Tahir and former T20 World Cup winning captains Eoin Morgan and Aaron Finch.
