Court quashes FIR registered against film director Pa Ranjith

An FIR was lodged against the director for his remarks made about Raja Raja Cholan during an event in 2019

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Friday quashed the FIR lodged by Thiruppanandal police in Thanjavur district against film director Pa Ranjith for his remarks on Raja Raja Cholan.

Justice G. Elangovan in 2019. The petition seeking quashing of the FIR lodged against him by Ranjit was accepted. The police had registered a case against him after his speech at an event organized by the Neelapuligal movement.

The petitioner said that he had talked about land issues during the reign of Raja Raja Cholan. His intention was not to hurt the sentiments of any community, but only to raise voice for the marginalized people. The speech was about how the people of the Delta region had become landless. Also, the speech was about eradicating casteism and aimed at creating a casteless society, he said.
