COVID-19: ICMR-NIN to issue new dietary guidelines to boost immunity

The Indian Council of Medical Research and the National Institute of Nutrition will soon issue new dietary guidelines to keep people’s immunity high in the time of COVID-19. Due to the increased risk of covid and other chronic diseases, health experts believe that every person should be aware of healthy lifestyle habits.

Dr Avula Lakshmaiah, Scientist G and Director, ICMR-NIN, told news agency ANI So that new guidelines can be issued soon. He said the new guidelines could help reduce the risk of contracting non-communicable chronic diseases such as diabetes type 2, coronary heart disease, heart attacks, strokes and communicable diseases. The increased consumption of high-fat sugar, salt and HFSS food is also reason to review the guidelines. “NIN actually developed the dietary guidelines for Indians in 2011. The draft copy of the guidelines covers all age groups. This will include 50-70 goals. The guidelines will include chapters addressing nutrition for children, infants, adolescents, women, including pregnant and lactating mothers, men and older age populations.

Through these guidelines people can be able to maintain a healthy lifestyle, he added, adding that even a small change in daily routine will help in achieving a healthy lifestyle.
